Our 2014 K9 Veterans Day celebration was another wonderful success. Despite the rain and wind, we received a positive response from everyone. Thank you to all who joined us on this very special day. Service dogs from all over the area once again came to celebrate. This year we even had a little celebrity, Lucy. Lucy is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Smallest Working Dog. We had a great turn out from vendors and rescue groups as well. WOGL Oldies 98.1 provided music for the event. Unfortunately due to inclement weather, the demonstrations were unable to be performed by the Delaware County Sherriff’s office. We were very grateful to everyone who came out to support us in the rain :

K9 Veterans Day 2013

Our 2013 K9 Veterans Day celebration was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this very special day. Service dogs from all over the area came to celebrate, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Washington D.C. We had a great turn out from vendors and rescue groups as well. WOGL Oldies 98.1 provided music for the event. The Delaware County Sheriffs Department put on an amazing demonstration of Police K9 Dog's skills for apprehending a suspect and K9 Partners for Life demonstrated the use of a personal service dog. The Delaware County SPCA and The Animal Coalition of Delaware County brought some very cute animals available for adoption, and The Barker Lounge was here with information on doggy day care and boarding options. CARES (Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services) had information on Emergency care and Specialist services, and PACT for Animals provided information about fostering pets for Military families and hospitalized patients. The Stoney Creek Veterinary Hospital Doctors and Staff would like thank each and every person for helping to make this celebration a great success, and a very special thank you to all the service dogs and their handlers for all their hard work and dedication.

WHO: Stoney Creek Veterinary Hospital

WHAT: K-9 Service Dog Veterans Day observance. This event recognizes service dogs from all organizations in the Philadelphia area and is an opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to these dogs and handlers who selflessly serve humanity.  Service dogs and handlers are invited.  The event is also open to the public.

WHEN: March 10, 2013 Sunday 

12p-4p, rain or shine. Activities scheduled include:

*Proclamation of March 13, 2012 as K-9 Veterans Day in the state of Pennsylvania

*Hero awards for local service dogs given by congressional order

*Memorialization of three fallen service dogs in memorial garden

*Delaware County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit demonstration

*Canine Partners for Life service dog demonstration

*Vendor village with dog specific vendors

*Dog pampering with Laser Therapy, nail trims, special treats and Canine Massages by therapist Kathy McCarry.  Free services are for service dogs only. RSVP

Our event for K9 Veterans Day was a great success! Everyone who attended and all the volunteers from Stoney Creek enjoyed a beautiful day, We wanted to pamper the service dogs by providing free Nail trims, microchips,massage and Laser Therapy, we wanted our service dogs to feel honored on this day.

Come join Stoney Creek Veterinary Hospital for a celebration of K9 Veterans Day.

The Pennsylvania Senate has designated March 13th to be K9 Veterans Day. The day is designated for all Canine Service Dogs.

We are celebrating this event on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 and are excited to honor all service dogs from the Delaware Valley that are involved in any service that benefits humanity.

Schedule of Events:

12:00pm to 1:00pm :

*Ceremony honoring K9 Veterans Day, with reading of the PA resolution declaring March 13th as K9 Veterans Day

*Dedication of our Service Dog Memorial Garden

*Demonstration by Delco Sheriff's Department K9s

1:00pm to 5:00pm :

Service dogs and handlers will be invited into the hospital for an afternoon of pampering --
*Therapeutic Laser treatments to ease those aches and pains,
*Canine Massage Therapy for "feel-good" relaxation
*Nail trimming and microchipping services

All active and retired Service dogs from all organizations are welcome, including Therapy and Seeing-Eye, Search and Rescue, Police, Fire, Military, Transportation, Guard.....

We are giving-back to the animals that most deserve our thanks - please forward this invitation to any service dog handler.

Recognizing March 13, 2012, as "K9 Veterans Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.

Whereas, Dogs have been utilized by the United States military from World War I to present conflicts; and

Whereas, In the current War on Terror, dogs are used to assist with activities involving customs, search and resuce, border patrol, police and secret service in order to better protect and serve our country; and

Whereas, Many residents of this Commonwealth actively participate in and engage in K9 training and operational activities to assist the United States military and law enforment authorities;  and

Whereas, K9 dogs have made the ultimate sacrifice by laying down their lives for their partners in the line of duty and are valued for their loyalty and devotion; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Senate recognize March 13, 2012, as "K9 Veterans Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
