The upcoming holidays are fast approaching with all the great food and goodies. We need to remember that our furry friend, with the begging brown eyes, is not able to digest the rich food like we can!
We "think" we are "treating" our dog when we give him that piece of turkey or add the gravy to his food. What we are doing is going to make our dog sick, with vomiting and/or bloody diarrhea -- and it will probably happen in the middle of the night!
After all the partying is done and the house is cleaned up and you are tired, that is when you will be awakened to the cries of a sick dog. Not only do you now have an awful mess to clean up when you're tired and cranky, but you have a sick dog that needs to go to the vet! Exaggeration? Not really. We see sick dogs every day-after-a-holiday at Stoney Creek!
Do yourself and Fido a favor and ignore the pleading eyes. Do not vary your dogs diet during the holiday and you and your pet will get through the holidays healthy. Plus, you wont have any added stress and expense of an unscheduled visit to the vet with a sick animal.
Not that we don't want to see you, but we like our patients to be healthy and happy. That the best holiday present you could give yourself, your dog and all of us at Stoney Creek, where your pet is part of our family.
